The Nottinghamshire County Council Planning Officer, Oliver Meek, has recommended that the Planning Committee approve IGas Energy’s application to explore for shale gas at Misson Springs. This recommendation comes despite thousands of written objections from local residents, as well as objections from Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, RSPB, CPRE Nottinghamshire, Notts Ramblers, Misson Parish Council, Blaxton Parish Council, Bassetlaw Against Fracking, Frack Free South Yorkshire, Frack Free Isle, Frack Free Lincs, and Friends of the Earth.

The County Council has received a total of 2,630 representations, with 2,624 objecting to the proposed development and JUST 6 in support therefore demonstrating that IGas has NO social license to explore for shale gas.

The Planning Officer’s report can be read here.

This, however, does not mean this application has been approved. The decision will be made on Wednesday 5th October at County Hall in West Bridgford, when the Planning Committee will meet to discuss the application. The Planning Committee are not bound to accept the Planning Officer’s recommendation, and are still able to reject the application. Last year in Lancashire, the Planning Committee overwhelmingly rejected an application from Cuadrilla to frack at two sites, despite the Planning Officer recommending approval.

Although this application is for exploratory drilling, we know that IGas aren’t doing this for no reason -the lace front wigs shop online they are interested in fracking and this means hundreds of wells in the area, creating a gasfield.

Anti-fracking campaigners in Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire are appealing direct to Nottinghamshire county councillors to defy county planners and reject IGas Energy’s application to explore for shale gas at Misson Springs, despite the Planning Officer’s recommendation to give the plans the go-ahead.

Huge numbers of Nottinghamshire, S.Yorkshire & N.Lincolnshire residents have written to county councillors outlining their concerns. Residents have also applied to speak at the Planning Committee on Wednesday 5th October at County Hall, West Bridgford.

Frack Free Nottinghamshire is planning a peaceful gathering outside county hall from 9am on the day. We ask that you come along, join us and support us. Bring your voices and placards and show the councillors that they have every right to reject this application.
