It has come to the notice of the campaign group, Frack Free Notts, that a meeting is to be held in Nottinghamshire later today involving Geza Frackman, reps of INEOS and possibly others. We were invited to attend this meeting at very short notice.

We would like to make it clear why we won’t be attending. This is mainly because of the short notice, the inability to consult with our core group of members about it and doubts as to whether it will be helpful to the anti-fracking cause. In particular:

We have not been told what this meeting is about;
We have not had a discussion about the issues that might be raised, and if we had done so
It is unlikely that we would have agreed among ourselves to seek such a meeting at this stage.

We believe that when you run a campaign which involves a number of people giving their valuable time, as far as possible, you agree together what you are going to do and how you will do it. Going solo is seldom a good option in our experience, and we do not want to encourage people operating in this way, who are not members of our group, to disrupt our agenda and priorities out of the blue.

Therefore, we would like to make it clear that Geza may be well intentioned and is entitled to do what he wants as an individual, but he does not speak for our group.

    Gayzer Frackman, who was on day 11 of his protest in Whitehall today, has permission to deliver information to the prime minister and chancellor. But he is also calling on David Cameron to meet him.

Have your say
