Members of Frack Free Notts are concerned about an application to drill ‘conventional oil’ just outside Radcliffe on Trent, Rushcliffe. This is being carried out by Hutton Energy, who are an international oil & gas company specialising in shale gas fracking. We’ve looked at the site and this is unlikely to be shale gas fracking, and Hutton have confirmed this. But there is potential for coal bed methane extraction. This is the same kind of extraction that happened at Daneshill near Retford in March 2014. Hutton Energy deny that they are looking for coal bed methane, but we know the oil and gas industry lie about what they are doing. Fracking companies have talked about only searching for conventional oil and then found shale, others have talked about only searching for coal bed methane but then found shale – so even if Hutton Energy say they’re drilling to a depth, we can’t believe that they’ll do this. The other point is that Hutton DO have plans for shale gas fracking in Rushcliffe and they HAVE confirmed this. So any money made from this work will go towards funding shale gas fracking plans.

The local community have certainly been mobilised about this in the last few weeks – they only found out about the application very late – as only a very few houses were consulted, despite Hutton’s community outreach programme they talk about on their website. The planning permission application has been given and there is only one day left to send in comments to the Environment Agency application consultation – see the below flyer – by Friday 13th.

We urge you to write in an objection to this.
